I was one of the first intake of pupils to attend Tollerton Primary School when it opened and was lucky enough to be taught by Mrs Gretton. She inspired in me a love of words and reading that has always stayed with me. Three years ago, in 2018, I visited her to interview her for Tollerton Village History Society and we spent a lovely afternoon reminiscing about the school and I was amazed at the strength of her memory and her zest for life, at the age of 101! She told me I could call her Doreen, but I still called her Mrs Gretton!  

I think I was extremely fortunate to have a teacher like her in my formative years and I will always remember her with affection.
