I am Doreen's granddaughter in law.  I first met Doreen at a Christmas family gathering.  We were introduced and she immediately presented me with the Telegraph cryptic crossword, and said "My dear, I wonder if you can help me with the last clue?!" 

What a test!  I'd never attempted a cryptic crossword before, but I glanced at it and, by chance, the answer came to me straight away.  I'm not sure whether it was a test of intellect, humour, or strength of character (or perhaps she was just satisfied at completing the crossword!) but she seemed suitably pleased, and luckily (for Pete and myself) I wasn't put off by being tested and we were eventually married :-)
