Memories of Mrs Gretton from my primary school days

Created by Jane 3 years ago

I was a pupil at Tollerton primary school from 1960 to 1966 and have such wonderful memories of Mrs Gretton. There were just two classes when I started there, if I remember correctly, and the school was called Tollerton County Primary School. I remember being in the Headteacher's top set for mental arithmetic.  I remember bantams, sports days, planting trees, making a beautiful hanging for the back of the school piano with scenes of Nottingham embroidered on it, and so much more. I loved school and Mrs Gretton inspired me to do my best and aim high; in fact in my international career I have been the headteacher of a school in Dubai and Principal of a school in Qatar.

One very special memory of Mrs Gretton is when I was in hospital aged about 10 and she came to visit me, bringing me a copy of Gulliver's Travels, which I treasured. She was a wonderful headteacher and made such a difference to so many children. My brother and sisters also attended the school and she is remembered with great fondness.
