A Visit with Auntie Doreen

Created by john 3 years ago

We were visiting Steve & Sue one afternoon in January 2016 along with Emily (Baines). Auntie Doreen was with them at the time. Emily came in the living room and sat down on the settee with a whoosh! Auntie Doreen said "That is not how a lady sits down!" We immediately asked her to demonstrate to Emily how a lady sits down. She got off her chair and came and sat down on the settee holding on to one arm of it, and gently descended on to the seat. We all laughed and thanked her.

A little later in the evening around the meal table, I (Julia) was sitting next to Auntie Doreen, and turning to her I said "We still have an old 'electric' frying pan of your mother's." Auntie Doreen said "Do you have any right to that?". I said "Yes, your mother gave it to me". It turns out that Auntie Doreen thought I was talking directly to Stephen and therefore it would have meant that it was her frying pan!

Laughs all around.

Needless to say we had a wonderful evening together. We loved her sense of humour - and somehow she managed to keep a straight face when saying something funny.

We will miss her. The last of 'that generation' (our parents generation).

We have been blessed to have known her all our lives. Thank you for your example Auntie Doreen.

Love from Cliff & Julia
